F. A. Day Students Celebrate Rededication of the Civil War Monument in Newton

On May 18, 2014, F. A. Day Middle School students participated in the rededication of the Soldier’s Monument to Newton’s Civil War soldiers.  Located in Newton Cemetery on Walnut Street in Newton Centre, the Soldier’s Monument bears the names of 61 Newton soldiers who were killed or died from service in the Civil War.
In preparation for this celebration, students used iPads and Google Docs to collect data from the Newton Public Library and the Jackson Homestead as well as from other sources. This data was complied and students created a Wiki with soldier's biographies, images of primary source documents and regiment information. The Wiki can be accessed here.
