How will I make 2015 the BEST year for my students?

Our school has been doing a lot of work with Mindset, The New Psychology of Success by Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D. As a result of this work, I have decided that I will make 2015 the best year for my students by striving to become a growth-minded teacher.

"A growth minded teacher loves to learn. And teaching is a great way to learn. About people and about how they tick. About what you teach. About yourself. And about life."

I think this is the best way to grow as an educator, to start each day fresh and ready to learn, just like we want our students to do! We will learn from our failures, work hard and then harder and create a love of learning for our students:)

Collaboration in Cambridge

This week as part of the Ed Tech Teacher Summer Workshop Series in Cambridge MA, I had the opportunity to work with a wonderful group of educators and top-notch presenter, Suzy Brooks. We spent three days learning and exploring tools for technology integration in the elementary classroom. Each day, this dynamic group of 23 educators would take a break for lunch and explore all that Harvard Square had to offer. After three days, this is what they created:

I wish I could tell you how many apps and applications were used in the creation of this presentation! Here are just a few of them: Google Presentation, YouTube, Google Maps, Popplet, Fotobabble, WeVideo......the list goes on!

Collaborating is not just for students!

Last night, I participated in a webinar with three people whom I respect and admire in the educational community, Beth Holland, Samantha Morra and Suzy Brooks. During the summer months, I have the privilege of working with these brilliant educators at EdTech Teacher. The focus of this webinar was "Whether your students have access to iPads, Chromebooks, laptops, or a computer lab, technology can empower even the youngest learners. In this webinar, we will explore a few tools and apps that nurture essential K-5 developmental and learning skills that you can use this spring." I have to admit that I was in awe of the these colleagues as they presented some of the most useful and accessible tools for the classroom that I have ever seen!
